As a novice rower last summer and fall, my once or twice weekly trips to Hix Bridge and joining a crew on the dock were the highlight of my summer and fall seasons.  As someone who craves silence in this busy world, I appreciated the general format of rowing with light conversation and periods of just being (and rowing).  Prior to rowing, I had not been on the water of the Westport River, despite driving over the Hix Bridge hundreds of times in my 22 years on the South coast.  It was a delight.  I loved seeing the bird life, the cows grazing, the lawns and docks of homeowners, and the oar simply slipping into the water on calm days.  The company and companionship warmed my heart.  Looking back, as we all wait out COVID 19, the memories continue to lift me.  I don't know when we will row again but I have faith it will happen.
