Youth Rowing Program
Row on the Westport River
For years, Dharma Voyage has introduced young people to the transformative experience of rowing on the Westport River. This outreach program continues that tradition with renewed energy and focus.
Open to students entering grades 6 through 11, the program teaches rowing technique, navigation, water safety, and teamwork — all under the guidance of skilled and passionate volunteers.

Youth Rowing: Skills & Growth
Rowing technique
full-body coordination, rhythm, and power
Coxing and navigation
leadership, river awareness, and tactical decision-making
Safety and seamanship
responsibility on the dock and on the water
Fitness and focus
physical stamina as well as mental discipline
No experience necessary — just curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to pull together.

Participants build strength, confidence, and a deep connection to the river. Many even race competitively during the program.
Registration is handled through the Westport Recreation Department.
