Youth Programs
Dharma Voyage offers youth programs, in boatbuilding, in-school rowing, after-school rowing, and expedition rowing.
— Youth Programs
Craft. Courage. Connection.
Boatbuilding
For nearly a decade, Dharma Voyage has partnered with skilled volunteers to guide local high school students in building seaworthy wooden boats — by hand, from the keel up. What began at Westport High School has now expanded into a new community-based workshop, opening the door to youth from across the region.
This unique program blends craftsmanship with mentorship. Young builders learn patience, precision, and pride as they bring a vessel to life — and carry those lessons far beyond the boatyard.
Build a boat. Build a sense of self.
Youth Rowing
Each summer, Dharma Voyage and the Westport Recreation Department offer one of the most comprehensive youth rowing programs in the region. More than 75 young people have learned to row, cox, navigate, and lead safely on the Westport River.
Our program teaches not just technique and teamwork, but resilience and leadership. Youths trained with focus, raced with heart — and achieved real victories, earning wins and recognition on the water.
Confidence. Competence. Community. All from one seat in a boat.
